Books in the Age of Scrolling: The Quiet Power of ‘The Book Therapy’

In an age where our attention is constantly pulled by notifications, endless scrolling, and fast information, books offer something increasingly rare - Pause, Depth, & Reflection.

About fifteen months ago, a small group of around twenty-five therapists came together with a simple idea : to connect with the transformative power of reading. What began as casual conversations around books gradually evolved into something deeper. Through both virtual and in-person gatherings, we share not only insights from what we read, but also stories from our own lives. Each discussion becomes a space for reflection, empathy, and learning.

Reading does something remarkable. It slows our thinking, strengthens our imagination, and helps us understand human experiences beyond our own. For therapists especially, books become a quiet companion in understanding emotions, perspectives, and the complexities of life.

Our journey is just beginning. As our book club grows, we are now looking forward to organizing community events and expanding the idea of book therapy to a wider audience. If books have the power to change one perspective, they also have the power to positively influence many lives in the community and society.

Sometimes, the most meaningful revolutions begin quietly - one page at a time. As the quote goes by Samuel Ullman from his famous poem “Youth”, “We remain young to the degree that our ambitions are greater than our memories”. Youth is not about age; it’s about having bigger dreams for the future than attachment to the past. And this goes hand-in-hand with the mission statement of the book therapy ; because reading keeps curiosity and ambition alive. It also helps expand our purpose and vision resulting in meaningful and positive differences in the tapestry of our lives.

Books don’t just fill our time - they change the way we see ourselves and the world around us! So, Scroll less, read more and let the timeless power of stories guide you to purpose and perspective.
